Dry Practice Ep. 3

Updated: Dec 1, 2025

Dry Practice Ep. 3 is an exercise that I do almost daily.

ey what's up guys so today let's talk

0:11

about the second dry practice exercise

0:14

now the second one I got from Frank

0:15

Proctor right from way of the gun or I'm

0:17

sorry Frank Proctor shooting it used to

0:19

be way of the gun but when I met Frank

0:21

uh back in 2010 I went and took a class

0:24

I had no idea what I was doing uh pistol

0:26

wise right I sucked and uh he had passed

0:29

out these little thingies and he was

0:30

going down the line and I was on the far

0:32

side of the the range from where he

0:34

started and by the time he gets to me

0:36

he's like hey guys I'm passing out these

0:38

Frank Proctor Frank Proctor dry fire

0:41

devices and it was just a zip tie when

0:43

it got to me and I was like this guy

0:45

he's like he's like you can keep him

0:47

like all St he kind of like showed him

0:49

up a little bit or or pumped up the zip

0:52

ties a little bit now what's kind of

0:54

cool and what he was showing us uh was

0:57

how to shim your Glock so that you can

0:59

see certain things that your gun or

1:01

sorry your grip is doing or isn't doing

1:04

based off of how you're pressing the

1:06

trigger now furthermore uh in my time I

1:10

started understanding this exercise way

1:12

more and I found the value in it even

1:14

further um at first I did not see the

1:16

value because I was like cool I'm

1:18

pressing the trigger but what I didn't

1:20

see is what I wasn't doing I'm sorry

1:23

what yeah what I wasn't doing to the

1:25

actual grip so it's very interesting to

1:27

me but what I mean by that is uh as most

1:30

of you guys know once once your Glock is

1:33

pressed there is no more trigger stuff

1:36

right it's it's a dead trigger so you

1:38

have to shim it so you can get a squishy

1:40

trigger like you get on a lot of other

1:42

guns so like mmps sigs 2011's things

1:45

like that they'll have like squishy

1:47

triggers that you can kind of keep

1:48

pressing really nice really com

1:50

comfortable and really fun to play with

1:53

now it's not the worst thing in the

1:54

world and Glocks aren't like the end all

1:57

be all in any way but I do like shooting

1:59

my glock Glocks I like Glocks a lot I

2:01

teach with Glocks and I teach a lot of

2:03

people that have Glocks so it's still

2:05

such a prevalent gun I kind of still

2:07

want to shoot it well and I actually

2:09

enjoy them I I do enjoy shooting them

2:12

now what I found was uh or sorry what I

2:15

was taught was just to shim it with

2:17

either a small piece of paper like I

2:19

have here this is just one I keep using

2:21

it just sits on my desk and I just use

2:22

it whenever I I'm dry practicing but uh

2:25

but a zip tie a small piece of paper

2:28

they some people are 3D printing a

2:30

little bullet that can go in there that

2:31

can shim the the the slide open there's

2:34

a ton of different options out there

2:36

honestly a piece of paper does the job

2:38

uh I don't need to buy anything fancy

2:39

for it now what I like about this like I

2:43

said I can now get Squishy trigger now

2:46

what we're going to do with this

2:47

exercise I just call it squishy trigger

2:49

I don't know if there's a fancier name

2:50

or whatever but it's just squishy

2:52

Trigger or shimmed trigger now this

2:54

exercise what I'm going to be doing is

2:56

I'm going to be pressing the trigger but

2:58

I'm not going to be pressing the trigger

2:59

like I'm friendss with the trigger me

3:01

pressing the trigger like it owes me

3:03

money right like where's my money Brian

3:05

like that kind of situation and the

3:07

reason being is because I want to input

3:09

the most aggressive movement I can and

3:12

see if I'm doing any of the gripping and

3:14

pressing stuff that we saw in the

3:15

previous episode I kind of explained and

3:18

we would see the same motions in our Red

3:20

Dot on the paper in relation to that so

3:24

with this we're going to get to see like

3:26

some of the problems that we'll have and

3:28

uh hopefully start correcting Ing and

3:30

playing with our grip cuz every grip on

3:33

every gun uh in my opinion is different

3:36

because all of our hands are different

3:38

if we all had the same hand sizes all

3:40

the guns would probably be the same it

3:42

wouldn't matter because we just finally

3:44

figured out like hey what hand fits what

3:46

size but because we all have different

3:48

hand sizes we all have different guns we

3:50

all have different textures or different

3:51

P or different uh cuts and things like

3:54

that or modification to grips or add

3:56

tapes and stuff like that you need to

3:58

play around with it to figure out what

3:59

works for you so what what is it that

4:02

you have to do with your hands to make

4:04

this work better in your hands so that's

4:06

what we're going to do with it and I'm

4:08

going to show you guys through the

4:09

camera stand by all right guys so like I

4:12

said we're going to shim the Glock sorry

4:14

it's out of focus I'm trying to keep it

4:15

focused on the camera or I'm sorry on

4:17

the on the target but as you can see

4:19

it's shimmed that's not a normal thing

4:21

for a Glock to have some blue or teal

4:24

paper hanging out of it and what we're

4:25

going to do is we're going to put our

4:26

Red Dot on top of it let me see if I can

4:28

minimize that a little bit more

4:31

sorry I'm looking through it in the

4:33

camera bam see if that works better all

4:36

right cool so as you guys can see

4:38

there's the the Red Dot I dimmed it down

4:40

so it's a little little finer so we can

4:41

see the blue but what I'm going to do

4:43

obviously we see the wobble which is

4:45

normal for all of us uh just get used to

4:47

it stop stop worrying about it but what

4:50

I'm going to do is I'm going to start

4:51

squishing the trigger and I'm going to

4:52

do it violently I'm going to literally

4:54

be slapping on and off the trigger the

4:56

whole entire time now can I stay on the

4:58

trigger and do this I absolutely could

5:00

that would be like a more more refined

5:02

version of it right but I'm trying to

5:04

get the most gross version of this and

5:06

Trigger press so that I can fix myself

5:09

so uh let me try not to bump the camera

5:12

and as you see watch when I start

5:17

pressing all right cool so I'm keeping

5:20

it pretty much wobbling on and off of it

5:22

very slightly and that's through the

5:24

camera so that's actually not bad I

5:25

expected worse uh out of me uh cuz I

5:27

didn't practice this prior uh through

5:29

the camera at least so it's kind of cool

5:31

now with that right that was me being

5:33

really aggressive on it and being able

5:35

to keep it within within reason around

5:38

that little blue guy um and if you're

5:40

looking at like a 1in Target at like 5

5:42

yards that's about where I kind of

5:43

measure this so playing around with

5:45

something that size so looking at this

5:49

not a crazy exercise but very useful and

5:52

what you can do with it obviously you

5:54

can do like multiple shots and

5:55

transition to other targets so like we

5:57

see the one on the left there right we

5:59

move over if I could do this in the

6:02

camera right we can do multiple shots

6:04

all that stuff but what I'm looking for

6:06

mainly is is like fixing my grip right

6:08

so the exercise here is to do squishy

6:14

trigger and be aggressive on that

6:16

trigger you can even see how aggressive

6:18

I'm being is that my thumb on my right

6:19

hand is Shifting around like that's how

6:21

aggressive I'm pressing this thing as

6:23

hard as I can so that this all is moving

6:25

and what I'm trying to do is make sure I

6:27

can keep it on there to to a reason able

6:29

extent right you have to have honest

6:32

reasonable expectations of what you're

6:34

able to do now let's see some problems

6:36

that happen so let me loosen up my left

6:38

hand and show you what

6:41

happens so you can see it kind of

6:43

shutters to the left a little bit each

6:45

time because I'm I'm literally giving

6:47

nothing with my left hand or my support

6:49

hand and I'm seeing lateral

6:51

movement just like one-handed shooting

6:53

so I don't want it to be a hood and

6:55

ornament I want to put it on there I

6:56

want to play the

6:58

game cool awesome right so now let me go

7:01

ahead and let me do what is very common

7:03

is to grip and press at the same exact

7:06

time the entire time like gripping these

7:09

three fingers and this guy at the same

7:10

time CU I'm gripping so hard it's very

7:12

hard to not sympathetically move them so

7:15

Watch What

7:19

Happens yeah so so you can see how it

7:23

kind of goes to the left it also goes

7:24

low and left sometimes it's a very uh

7:27

easy one to replicate because it's so

7:29

common and it's such an error that most

7:31

of us make that we don't realize until

7:34

we see it and so hopefully you're seeing

7:36

it here and this can help you through

7:38

that so squeezing mostly with my left

7:40

hand not squeezing as much with my right

7:43

anymore now I can get really aggressive

7:46

on that and you can still see there's a

7:47

little moments of where I start pushing

7:49

on the gun or something like that what

7:50

this will also help you see is if you

7:53

are one of those that tries to fight

7:55

recoil and like uh right like uh I got

7:59

to I got to beat recoil every time this

8:01

will start to train you not to do it

8:03

because you're not going to be worried

8:04

about recoil so it's a really useful

8:06

tool so with this guys uh squishy

8:09

trigger not groundbreaking nothing crazy

8:12

it's definitely not rocket science but

8:14

it can make you a better shooter so it's

8:16

another dry practice exercise that you

8:17

could try now excuse me this dry this

8:21

dry practice exercise and the previous

8:23

one in the pre previous episode I

8:25

consider those like Staples I do them

8:27

almost every day um every time I travel

8:30

I end up with an empty gun right because

8:31

they have to travel empty in cases and

8:34

when I unload them out of the case I

8:35

usually go right to let me do some of

8:38

these two different exercises I'll tear

8:40

a piece of paper off the pad inside the

8:42

hotel room all right and then get kind

8:44

of reps with that as well as when I do

8:47

the first exercise which was trigger

8:49

control at speed so hopefully you guys

8:50

watch that video and if you didn't you

8:52

can go back and check it out so hope

8:54

this helps guys if you need anything

8:56

please let me know take care
