Dry Practice Ep. 5

Updated: Dec 1, 2025

Welcome to Dry Practice Ep. 5. This is where we start to get the draw involved into our practice. What are we looking for and trying to accomplish with this. Enjoy.

hey what's up guys so welcome to episode

0:11

5 now episode 5 is the fourth exercise

0:14

in the series and uh this one is one of

0:16

my favorites it's actually a really

0:17

comfortable one to do and uh it probably

0:20

along the lines of things that most

0:21

people do anyways but it's starting to

0:24

now incorporate your draw so whether

0:26

you're doing it from like an iwb uh or

0:29

iwb h

0:30

or you're doing it from owb in a

0:32

retention or non- retention holster it's

0:34

the same exact process even if you don't

0:36

want to use a holster you could actually

0:38

do it from down in a lower compressed

0:41

ready or some kind of compressed ready

0:43

like a go gun position or whatever you

0:45

guys want to call it um all sorts of

0:47

positions that you can do this from and

0:49

what it is is you trying to look at a

0:53

specific spot on the wall on a Target on

0:55

whatever and getting it to arrive on

0:58

that piece of Target every single time

1:01

so arriving exactly where you're looking

1:03

now if you use something large like the

1:05

whole cardboard Target here that's a lot

1:08

you're going to get it every time but

1:10

you're not really being specific about

1:11

where you're Landing if you use

1:13

something small like this little black

1:15

circle on the Target or like your light

1:19

switch and the screw on the light switch

1:21

anything like that something small that

1:23

I like to use uh that's going to get you

1:25

closer to what you want so if you're

1:27

looking at like random objects in your

1:28

house use some small portion of the

1:31

object or the corner of a of a picture

1:33

frame picture frame has four of them

1:35

right so you have a lot of options and

1:38

what this offers is one getting your

1:40

eyes to something specifically and then

1:42

also arriving exactly where you want to

1:46

you will not be able to do this if you

1:48

stare at or pay attention to the gun as

1:51

it comes up like if you guys can see my

1:53

eyes if you look at the gun as it's

1:55

coming up you're not going to be able to

1:56

do this it's the same way as you point

1:59

so if you don't believe me go a and

2:01

stand there with your phone or whatever

2:04

what I'd like you to do is just look at

2:05

something small so uh whether it's a

2:07

light switch or it's a something or a

2:09

cloud a tree whatever but something

2:11

small on those objects and then as you

2:13

go go ahead and point at it with your

2:15

finger and what you'll see is your

2:17

finger arrives almost exactly where your

2:18

eyes are that's what this exercise is

2:21

working on right it's some form of hand

2:23

eye cordination now the the other thing

2:26

is go ahead instead of stare at

2:28

something go and follow your finger up

2:30

to that object and you'll see you'll

2:31

have some slight variation you'll have

2:33

to do to correct it that's what I don't

2:36

want to do so this is going to help a

2:38

lot with transitions with your draw in

2:41

general and getting it getting uh the

2:43

gun where you want it but in the grand

2:45

scheme of things what this is is

2:47

literally just practicing aiming and if

2:49

you can do that appropriately or the

2:51

right way you can get really fast with

2:53

this and you can actually get really

2:55

good at shooting but if you don't and

2:57

you want a half asset go for it boo boo

2:59

but but hopefully you're not watching

3:00

this series because you want to half ass

3:02

things you're wanting to get better so

3:04

that's what we're going to do today so

3:06

with this exercise I'm actually going to

3:08

I'm going to demonstrate a few with the

3:10

draw uh where you guys can see me and

3:12

bring it up but to show you where my DOT

3:14

is arriving I'm I'm going to have to use

3:16

a pistol with a laser on it and

3:18

unfortunately the laser pistol I do not

3:20

have a holster for so I'm just going to

3:22

hold it low and then bring it up so you

3:24

guys can see what I'm talking about all

3:26

right so uh weit one

3:31

so for this rep what we're going to do

3:32

is we're going to just use my normal gun

3:34

uh I'm going to work towards getting it

3:36

on that black dot that's on that little

3:38

Target if you guys can make that out in

3:39

the camera I don't know but it's Center

3:42

a or Center sorry High a zone is where

3:45

the black dot is um and if you want to

3:48

you can use an unloaded gun to kind of

3:50

do this or you can use a gun with inert

3:53

bullets so meaning there's no gunpowder

3:56

and no primer on this but it does weigh

3:59

the same as my normal carry rounds and

4:02

stuff like that so I like doing it with

4:04

that weight because it does swing

4:06

differently for me but it's up to you

4:08

guys on how you want to do it I will do

4:10

it from concealment at first all right

4:12

sometimes do this from owb sometimes do

4:14

this under nods uh all sorts of stuff

4:17

like I want to practice this in all the

4:19

environments that I'm going to play

4:20

around with even maybe start doing it

4:23

and like incorporating light into it

4:25

right and activating my white light so

4:27

however you want to go about it is up to

4:29

you um um I would scale it and play with

4:31

it a little bit um I also like doing it

4:33

at different speeds right kind of like a

4:36

a learning Pace to make sure that I'm

4:38

acquiring the gun the way I want to I'm

4:40

getting the grip I want to and I'm

4:42

landing where I want to on the Target

4:44

and then I also do this at like varying

4:46

speeds faster than that so like uh you

4:49

know I'll go to like comfortable hand

4:50

speed where I can get it almost every

4:52

time and then I'll go to like Ricky

4:54

Bobby speed where I'm just going full

4:56

[ __ ] match like Full Speed Ahead like

4:59

all the all the gas I got out of this

5:00

thing and so I'll go at different Paces

5:02

to try and get myself a little bit more

5:04

understanding what I can do but also I

5:06

want to arrive on target as soon as I

5:08

can so this allows me to do that so let

5:11

me see a couple rep or we'll do a couple

5:12

reps and then we'll go from there so you

5:14

could use a timer or you can just hang

5:16

out and do it from yourself uh but right

5:18

now we'll just hang out and do it

5:19

ourselves so from here right getting

5:22

getting it on the target once I get it

5:24

on the Target and that was actually

5:26

really good rep I was happy with that

5:28

but once it arrived I'm verifying my

5:30

grip was good if I wanted to I could

5:32

start incorporating uh your trigger

5:34

press later into it and kind of do like

5:37

the the trigger control at speed which

5:38

we talked about in the second episode of

5:40

this right things like that we can

5:42

starting to to incorporate into it but

5:44

originally I just want it to be draw and

5:46

I essentially get my finger on trigger

5:49

like I'm going to shoot but I don't

5:50

shoot right so from here

5:53

again cool so I ended up a little bit

5:56

low and I had to bring it up so I'm

5:57

going to try it again try and get myself

5:59

into to a a good

6:02

spot cool so that one landed where I

6:04

wanted a little bit of wobbling there

6:06

but I'll try and uh clean that up as I

6:08

go cool that one ended up right where I

6:11

wanted uh other than me just moving it

6:13

off afterwards but ended up where I

6:15

wanted and I could press that shot and I

6:17

would have had what I would consider a

6:19

good shot on that Target based off of

6:20

where I was looking so that's what I'm

6:22

looking for guys and if I can verify

6:24

like hey my grip is exactly what I

6:27

wanted it landed where I wanted it to go

6:30

right it looks the way I wanted it to

6:31

look and it feels the way I know will

6:34

function with recoil and other things

6:36

awesome that's what I'm looking for so

6:39

that's from concealment right so now

6:40

let's do it where you guys can kind of

6:43

see it a little better cuz I'm just

6:45

telling you what my eyes are seeing but

6:48

now let's do it with a pistol that has a

6:50

laser so this laser I would not suggest

6:53

lasers for uh Duty use or any kind of

6:56

serious use they don't hold zero very

6:58

well um if you find one let me know so I

7:01

can try it out but I still haven't found

7:03

one no matter how many thousands of

7:04

dollars I've spent on them so this one

7:07

is just a demonstration tool so I'm

7:09

going to do it since it doesn't fit in a

7:10

holster I'm just going to do it from

7:12

like a low position so down here so I

7:14

can acquire my grip still right so we

7:17

can see it landed right where I was

7:18

looking right where I was

7:20

looking up just a little bit left of it

7:24

cool a little bit

7:25

low cool a little bit

7:28

low all right right right on

7:30

it that's all I'm looking for guys so if

7:33

you want to incorporate the trigger

7:34

press or trigger

7:36

touch

7:38

right

7:41

cool a little bit low little bit

7:45

High cool so hopefully that makes sense

7:48

guys uh that's just me demonstrating it

7:50

with the laser but it's essentially the

7:53

same thing I'm looking for uh the same

7:56

thing I've been looking for the entire

7:57

time so this exercise is literally just

8:00

a draw it's a visual exercise it's some

8:02

hand eye coordination and once again we

8:04

can incorporate a ton of things into it

8:06

afterwards if we wanted to and this is

8:08

the starting of you getting your eyes to

8:11

where you want your gun to go you lead

8:14

the gun your eyes lead the gun really

8:16

yeah like your hand speed doesn't matter

8:18

if your eyes can't see what you want to

8:19

get to so hopefully this helps guys and

8:22

if you have any questions throw them

8:24

down below take care
