Dry Practice Ep. 6

Updated: Dec 1, 2025

Dry Practice Ep. 6. The 6th episode has the 5th exercise that I use in dry practice and that is simple reloads. Enjoy.

all right hey what's up guys so today

0:11

we're going to start episode 6 which is

0:13

the fifth exercise in the series and

0:16

it's going to offer uh just simple

0:19

reloads now when it comes to reloads uh

0:22

you'll need a few things to do this

0:23

exercise right so if you're going to do

0:25

it from outside the waistband you should

0:27

have outside the waistband equipment if

0:29

you're going to do it from ins inside

0:30

the waistband you should have that

0:31

inside the waistband equipment uh you

0:33

will need mag pouches and if you are

0:36

using magazines uh they can be unloaded

0:39

but unloaded without dummy rounds uh

0:42

make for hanging up a lot so if you've

0:45

ever noticed

0:46

it let me drop some of these rounds out

0:49

of

0:51

here with an empty mag it has these

0:54

Jagged edges for the feed lips and those

0:57

edges like to get caught and not really

1:00

seat into the gun smoothly with a bullet

1:04

at the top an inert bullet or real ones

1:07

if you're doing this outside on the

1:08

Range uh it is very easy to get those

1:11

rounds back in there or at least get the

1:13

gun to or sorry the mag to insert into

1:16

the gun so just something to pay

1:18

attention to so if you are practicing

1:19

this with empty mags uh you are going to

1:22

have a harder time potentially not not

1:25

for sure and if you're using big mag

1:27

Wells it probably doesn't matter but at

1:29

least when when you're using uh standard

1:31

uh mag Wells like this and nothing

1:33

nothing no attachments or anything like

1:35

that you may need or you may get hung up

1:38

based off of not having a round there or

1:40

you may get hung up with a round like

1:41

that so you'll need a few mags um I

1:45

usually try to do two to three mags uh

1:47

one I like having one that's empty for

1:51

the initial like drop the mag out of the

1:53

gun I find that that is something that I

1:55

want to practice uh it's not necessary

1:58

per se but it is something that I like

2:00

to practice so when I go about my reload

2:03

practice I may practice some of them

2:05

with slide lock and go from there and

2:08

then drop a MAG and retrieve a MAG to go

2:10

into the next one or I may start off

2:14

with a slow a Clos slide because I am

2:17

doing a MAG change from a or without

2:21

retention and reduced capacity reloads

2:23

and stuff like that so it depends on

2:25

what you're doing and what you're trying

2:26

to accomplish but when it comes to the

2:29

the blast

2:30

and the setup of the mags uh an empty is

2:32

something I like to use to drop on the

2:35

ground for no reason or when I'm not

2:37

doing anything fancy now I will

2:41

also have two fully loaded with weighted

2:46

dummy rounds so remember no primers and

2:48

no gum powder in these things but

2:50

they're weighted so they they definitely

2:51

weigh the same as live mags uh that are

2:54

fully loaded now I like using live ones

2:57

to load into the gun because because it

3:00

feels like the mag that I'm going to

3:01

retrieve from my belt or my my inside

3:03

the waistband mag pouch and I think

3:05

that's important that's good practice

3:07

stuff versus an empty which weighs way

3:09

less so something to pay attention to if

3:12

you guys are doing this uh and set up

3:14

properly um but also just uh just

3:16

depends on how much you're you care

3:18

about it and how you want to accomplish

3:20

this now when you do this you could

3:22

start out static and I like to start out

3:25

with a learning Pace right and a

3:27

learning Pace May especially if this is

3:29

very new to you or you're trying A New

3:31

Concept on how to reload you want to

3:33

start out with a learning pace which

3:35

would be almost slow motion right so

3:38

you'll be you'll be going from this

3:40

position and dropping a MAG inserting

3:44

mag slowly releasing a slide and getting

3:46

back into it like all those things

3:48

should happen in slow motion if you're

3:50

just trying to learn like where are my

3:53

hands supposed to be for different

3:54

things where should my mag be or my mag

3:57

well be before my mag inserts into it

3:59

things like that I like using some form

4:01

of learning Pace it doesn't matter if

4:03

you want to or not I'm just giving you

4:05

an option the second Pace I go is

4:08

something that's more comfortable hand

4:09

speed so the speed of which that I can

4:12

get it like 10 out of 10 almost 10 out

4:15

of 10 let's say 9 out of 10 to 10 out of

4:17

10 times uh that I try it I will insert

4:21

and make it to where I want to be

4:22

because I'm going at a speed that my

4:24

hands can do this my brain can process

4:27

it and I'm not going very fast for that

4:29

anyway but comfortable hand speed is

4:31

definitely a thing then you want to go

4:34

what would be Ricky Bobby pace and Ricky

4:36

Bobby pace is literally try to do it as

4:38

fast as you humanly can now the reason

4:41

for that is to start getting you

4:42

comfortable with going that fast and to

4:45

make sure that your previous stages of

4:47

speed are actually helping you get fast

4:50

reloads because a Reload isn't something

4:52

that I want to do slowly ever um if

4:55

you've ever fumbled a Reload really

4:58

quick it's probably because you haven't

5:01

practiced it at that speed before and it

5:03

just happens and you're all excited and

5:06

jazzed up on Mountain Dew and hate and

5:08

you need to insert that mag and you mess

5:10

it up because of the speed that you

5:12

haven't practiced it at so something to

5:15

think about something to try something

5:16

to practice and uh varying speeds to

5:19

play with this stuff at because it may

5:21

help you so hopefully that makes sense

5:24

guys and if you need any help or would

5:26

like some more help with this let me

5:28

know or go to a class man uh classes

5:31

will definitely help you with little

5:32

things like this and somebody can

5:34

actually watch you and do it and it

5:36

doesn't have to be my class it could be

5:38

a lot of other reparable instructors

5:39

classes and you can get quite a bit of

5:41

reps in those things because you're

5:43

going to be shooting all day or all

5:45

weekend and you'll be reloading

5:46

throughout that time so you get live uh

5:50

really good reps in getting your mag

5:52

changes done um one thing I don't do a

5:55

lot is practice these live just to the

5:59

practice reloads I used to a lot and I

6:02

found very little value in that where I

6:04

can get all the value out of my dry

6:06

practice doing that and then when I'm

6:08

doing other things and reloads pop up I

6:10

can evaluate my reload after that and be

6:13

like well was that good was did that go

6:14

as smoothly as I wanted did I lose the

6:16

mag and it flew into nardia and that

6:18

gives me more use out of my ammo on the

6:22

Range as well as my time on the range

6:24

and then dry practice wise you're doing

6:26

all the mechanics that you need for

6:27

reload anyways so

6:30

whatever style of reload you want to do

6:32

uh and whatever way you want to slide

6:34

release a slides that is all in in your

6:37

hands man literally uh so uh hopefully

6:40

this helps guys and uh and you saw some

6:42

of the demonstrations of things that you

6:44

can do with dry practice but this is the

6:47

uh another exercise that I will do

6:48

personally to really try to accomplish

6:51

um

6:52

reloads and oh one other thing uh you

6:55

would would probably want to start doing

6:58

this on the move at some point point so

7:00

either moving from point A to point B

7:02

while you reload or point A to point B

7:05

to point C or in different directions so

7:07

left to right right to left front to

7:09

back back to front at diagonals in front

7:12

and back positions uh it is important to

7:14

be able to reload on the Move uh not

7:17

only in a competitive nature but also in

7:19

a tactical nature if you want to look at

7:21

it that way but it's shooting is

7:22

shooting guys so get good at it and

7:25

it'll just pop up one day and you're

7:26

like whoa my gun just reloaded itself

7:29

but didn't cuz your hands did it they

7:31

just did it really good all right take

7:34

care guys
