MRDS Placement on Optics, Lpvos or just along side other red dots can be tricky. Here are some options and tips.
all right hey what's up guys so today
let's talk about
dot placement on a scope right or on an
lpvo now really quick let's uh talk the
difference between a scope or an lpvo
both of them kind of fall under the
category of scopes right they have
magnification but
the lpvos fall down all the way to one
power and scopes start around three
three point six four four point five
five whatever right so just the
difference that's the way i like to kind
of separate them a little bit but both
are technically optics and scopes
now where i'm going to put my red dot on
them let's let's start talking about
some of the pros and cons
so if i'm going to place a dot
on the front end
right one of the pros to seeing it on
the front
is that the dot appears the same size
it's supposed to
or looks exactly or similar to what i'm
looking at when i'm holding a handgun so
for riff reference right if i hold my
rifle up and i look through my dot right
that dot appears the same way that my
red dot does
and when looking through it right look
at where my arm extends to when i'm
holding a red dot or a handgun it's
relatively close give or take a couple
inches
not a big deal but it gives me that same
relative look or feel to what i'm
looking at
now the other thing or the other reason
i like putting it there is that
the actual size of the dot stays
relatively the same and so does the
astigmatism i see through my dot so if
you already have astigmatism you put it
closer you're obviously going to see
more of that astigmatism it's going to
bring it closer to your eye you're going
to see more of those little artifacts
and stuff like that
the other thing that i like about
pushing it forward is that it works
really well for
night vision use the the last and most i
would say the biggest reason why i like
putting them forward
is because if i'm going to uncap my
turrets depending on the optic i'm using
depending on what i'm using i want to i
want to sometimes one zero my dam optic
so i want to see what i'm dialing but
two if i'm going to shoot at a little
bit more distance right and i want to
dial for it instead of hold i can right
especially if your optic doesn't have
really good uh reticle uh
well
give it a good reticle let's leave it
that if it doesn't have a good reticle
in it that's really easy to diagnose or
understand or it's just really gross
like this one this one to four here from
steiner it's just really gross in the
sense of what i can hold with it well i
could dial and just keep that or if i
wanted to dial this thing to from a 50
yard zero to 100 yard zero to a 200 yard
zero i can do so based off of what i
know of my dope and also what i know of
like what my ballistics can be with that
with this gun with the scope with the
ammo i put in it
so
being able to see my optics adjustments
i like that so for me personally
especially if you're putting it on a big
boy scope you want to make sure that you
you pay attention to that because you
may be dialing for farther stuff i i
want to make sure i can see that and i
can also verify that i'm back to zero
when necessary and i haven't just left
it on
whatever that is right so something to
think about now some of the some of the
cons or to putting it up front is that
the window appears a little bit smaller
right because it's not as close to your
eye
and then it also
what that does is sometimes makes it
harder for people to pick up the dot so
picking up the dot and and in their
cheek weld or their chin well depending
on how high they put it
they may have to kind of learn where to
place that head or where to place that
chin right so that you can find
that dot
every single time when you bring it up
now for some the bigger window being up
close actually helps that a lot and that
could be something that
helps you get to the point where you use
it as a training wheel and work your way
here or just look through your optic
feel what that feels like bring it down
bring it up back to the same spot it's
it's an easy trainable thing in my
opinion so
although it's a con on our list here
it's really not in the grand scheme of
things because it's trainable
but
um
putting the optic back here right it's
pretty much the reverse of what we were
just talking about when you bring it
back here the window size is larger so
it is nice um but
the dot is a little bit bigger uh in
relationship to what you're looking at
also like those artifacts that you're
looking at with um your astigmatism in a
red dot that may be
more pronounced now because you have it
closer to your face it's possible
depending on the dot and depending on
your astigmatism then from there
if you mount it back here you block your
turret which is kind of sub-optimal in
my opinion all right and you'll see it
in these little b-rolls that i put
through
it blocks your turret not something i
want i like to see them i like to dial
certain things i like to play around
with them and
zero them properly and stuff so overall
guys uh what i want you guys to kind of
get get a a grasp on for this video is
literally just figure out what you want
to do with it the good part is most of
these scopes any scope mounts that come
with this style of
movable cap or sorry movable ring or top
ring
you can switch it back and forth and
play around with it yourself and see if
that works for you personally i have
found that the dot being further away is
much more helpful than being so
hopefully this helped uh get you guys
where you need to be and understanding a
couple of these things um and i know
because it's going to be asked
what kind of mounts
uh do this
geisley with a reptilia adapter
uh reptilia's mounts with their adapters
spur mounts
and
there's a couple other ones like griffin
and stuff like that but i haven't used
those so i can't i can't reference them
um in the sense of like things i would i
would suggest but the reptilian mounts
the guys lean out with the reptilia
top cap or top portion
and the spur mounts are all really good
and they work really well they've held
zeros really well and they've held my
dots in different various ways pretty
dang good
so
just different options guys hopefully
that helps kind of narrow it down a
little bit for you some of the pros and
cons when it comes to it but overall
we're looking at you know what what is
it going to be more optimal for what
you're doing
take care
