hey what's up guys so today i wanted to talk about something that i get questions on all the time so uh let's talk about my pelican case now as a a full-time instructor or teacher like i like to say it um and also a full-time student if you ask me like that's how i look at it i travel a ton i take rifles i take pistols i take sim guns i take utm bolts all sorts of stuff and ammunition all over the country and one of the ways that i travel is with a pelican case and a duffel bag or two big rolling bags like sometimes it just varies based off the class now because i travel so much and because i use a big pelican case versus a rifle case um there's various things that i have to bring right like i i am as an instructor kind of it's important that i bring certain things like hey i need to bring my rifles and stuff like that my belt i need to bring like little tools i need to bring stuff that's going to help me help the students learn as well as i need to bring certain things to kind of support my teaching so one of the things that uh that i do instead of bringing like one of those rifle cases which aren't bad like most people travel with those and if you're just a student and it's not a big deal like you could probably travel with one and be pretty good but as an instructor like i need a little bit more stuff so a lot of times i opt for one of the deeper cases uh that i can put more things in versus just a you know flat rifle case looking thing also i like these better because they are less uh you know rifley looking so i i don't put stickers on them i try not to make my my boxes look appetizing to the person that wants to wants to use my uh my traveling as their new uh ability to acquire firearms so i'm gonna do my best to kind of conceal that the best i can uh the same way without the way i travel i usually just wear one of my logo shirts and like jeans it's it's a lot simpler it's a little bit more uh low-key and it's not so obvious to other people now occasionally when i travel i got to bring a helmet night vision stuff like that and i usually put those in my carry-on bag so it is a little bit more overt if you want to call it that but most people are oblivious to the people around them which is nice so going along i wanted to go through my pelican case because that's something i get questions on pretty often and wanted to make sure that i really gave you guys an in-depth view of it going from pocket to pocket and all the things i kind of keep in it for a general let's say rifle and pistol class or just a class that i'm teaching or taking um it makes it a little easier now just realize that some of the things are going to change based off of like the class type right if it's a night vision class i'll probably have more chem lights in there if it's a uh and maybe more you know night vision oriented stuff like lasers and things like that um and if it's a you know like a force on force class i i'll opt most of these guns for utm bolt bolted guns or actually like sim guns right like sim converted glocks which those of you that have been to weaponized geometry know what i'm talking about so i opt for having those things depending on the class so just just be aware of that but for general use like handgun or rifle mechanics this is usually how the box is you know packed because i need it for the specific things i'm teaching so whether i'm just teaching that that weekend and then flying home and then you know doing laundry rehashing and repacking the box for another different kind of class and leaving again um i usually travel around you know twice a week and sometimes even three times a week depending on where i'm going and what i'm doing so i travel with this box all the time the poor thing's been banged around quite a bit so it's just something i want to point out and and then we'll go through the actual box so wait one and let me get you guys a view of the box all right guys so what we're going to look at is the way i have my box laid out now if you didn't know this is just an 18 i'm sorry a 1615 air so it's the pelican 16 15 air and uh and i've done a couple things um for one i i usually keep like i said the outside relatively clear nothing on it no stickers thingamabobs whatever like i try to avoid having anything on top that's gonna really uh give away that it has firearms in it right and then uh and then on the front part there's like a little uh id card or a business card holder thing and i'll show you guys that let me right there and i usually put one of my business cards in there so nothing fancy but at least it it gives me some anime anonymity but also some contact info if you know if somebody needs that information so let me zoom out just a little bit more so you guys can see the whole box but real simple like design uh what i went for when it came to this box was organization as well as capacity right like if you go through and you put these little tiny like box style thingies in here you're gonna lose a lot of capacity in between those now if you need them because you're using like camera gear and stuff like that i totally get it no big deal go for it man you know it's it's up to you on how you're traveling but for me i i like to have a big cavernous uh uh like inside with some organization and then i use little pouches to store certain things and that's the way i usually you know like to organize these now uh we'll start out with like what's happening on the top here so the top organizer is from camera essentials and i don't know if they still sell it i've had it for a couple years so you know who knows nowadays like things change there may be a better version i wish i would have gotten one that has individual pouches instead of all of it on one panel because these are all one panel uh and all these these are attached to them if it was individual like velcroed pouches or something it would be awesome because then i could pull these off and use them on the range for like certain things um which would have been better like a little tool bag or something like that um but otherwise it's not a horrible deal but sometimes i travel with more stuff than i need for certain classes because i forget they're in here and this does add a considerable amount of weight all right my box as is right here is about 49 pounds all right if i added like a couple more rounds of you know ammo it would go over overboard so a lot of times i have to pull you know make sure i don't put too much in here and keep it at weight so starting up at over here at the top left pocket is is real simple i've got cleaning stuff so i have um clp lens cleaner i've got a flashlight cleaner from paragon uh which is awesome for carbon i've got a little lens cleaners and anti-fog stuff like that actually the sharpies in the wrong spot so that's what i keep in there nothing crazy i usually keep it in a little tiny pouch that's why you can't see the bottles um that way they all stay upright and don't tip over and then spill in here so i like to keep them all upright even though this case folds over it makes more sense for me to keep them all the same way so for me that's the best way i do it and then all i have to do is pull it out and then i can open up this little pouch and then i have all the the different stuff that i need so that's the way i like to have it up to you on how you keep your stuff obviously but that's a way then in this pouch here i have kind of like range stuff staples i have my blue tape that i use for some stuff you know marking things or or or giving people ideas i have sharpies in here of different kinds and i also have erasable map markers because i use those for certain things as well so i usually leave like little range things like equipment that i'd need for like marking targets or whatever it is in there and and that usually keeps it real simple um nothing too fancy then we go to the next one and this is like little tools so like i even have a lighter in here i have um so i have one of the um forward concepts like they're they're little punch rods because that comes in handy a lot with students with bad ammo a little lighter from theorem it makes sense to have a little bit of stuff like that a good old multi-tasker from multi-taskers like their twist and a couple you know bits and little things that that i may need personally another thing i keep in here which is a little bit different than other people but i keep a pair of my um uh nfmi from gentex or from opt core the fmi little plugs for my ear pro so just something to think about then going through let me see this is all my my different batteries so this entire compartment is full of different cell vaults right and batteries that i need for my stuff so or that students may need because they're doing a certain class that's going to need batteries i do a lot of low light night vision stuff batteries come in handy all the time and that's one of those things that i mean you can't have too many of those really but batteries a ton of ton of batteries and i put my headlamp in there that way i can put my headlamp on it's super simple like that then going down i have flashlights so different types of flashlights ir ones and visible ones and a backup headlamp because i've broken them way too many times um also i forgot i had one one time and i put a second one in here and i just left it so no big deal but flashlights of different kinds then we come over here and i've got some rags i got like the the good old hey clean my gun kind of rag or wipe it down kind of rag and then i have a little rag here from burn proof gear that is for hot suppressors so you can remove suppressors really useful for those of you that have hot cans or use hot cans and then need to remove them then going one more i have a set of pressure dressing here which is just because it's extra might as well throw one in pressure dressings are super useful and then i have a uh baggie of foamies now i never thought i'd need a bunch of foamies but students forget their earpro and i have forgotten my ear pro before so it is something that just every once in a while which i don't think i even put in this case yet which uh it's in my car right now because i'm teaching tomorrow but the the earpro stuff is very important and a lot of times give me one second a lot of times i'll even put my autos in here because it doesn't hurt to have a good set of like better ear pro which reminds me to put them in here for this weekend but but really like autos are great electronic ear pro that go in your ears especially for hot weather or a lot of like cheek weld-based stuff like like you'd be doing like a precision class or something like that so that's what i keep in this little pouch and then lastly this is kind of like a little admin pouch that has like almost nothing that's important i've got zip ties because every once in a while those come in handy i've got a spare [ __ ] like an s [ __ ] that every once while those come in handy i have some screws that i had to buy while i was on on the road and i just haven't pulled them out of here yet and then there's uh the two locks that i use and my keys for those for the locks now i will tell you these kind of locks are way better in my opinion than uh than those good old master locks that you'll usually use um these these i guess disc style locks or donut locks whatever they call them um are actually really nice because they're harder to uh bypass by just a smidge right if you know anything about locks anything can be bypassed but they're they're a little harder and then tsa can't cut them they have to come get me for my keys when they want to look inside my box which is the way i like to do it versus them cutting my locks checking my stuff and then later they're like hey we put new locks on there man so they have to call me which is important now as you can see there's a bunch of velcro on here as well on each of these pockets which ends up being like a where i throw patches or random things a lot of times they're american flags because like i do photo shoot or something like that and need need an american flag of some sort i could throw it on i have some of the matte bach skeeter patches which these soaked in deet they do a decent job at keeping mosquitoes off you so that's like a luxury kind of thing in my opinion and then i have some funny patches just out of the sake of having some funny ones um one of my buddies he made uh don't feed the bear patch with like cookies on it and then uh and then one for my brothers at c1g because you know support support your bros every once in a while i also have my tracker on here so this is my spot tracker and uh and i can pull it up on my my phone and track my box which is super super useful for those of you that travel often i think it's like 120 bucks a year to to subscribe to that and it's it's worth every penny especially for the amount of money that i put in this damn thing so going further right let's let's go into the bottom of the box right or the container um now the only thing like i said is missing is just my ear pro like my my over the ear kind of ear pro but other than that which obviously you can see it'll fit in here uh that's the only thing missing so going through i like to like i said keep things in pouches this is a pouch that i keep all my mags in so it's just a simple pouch i think it's from rdr gear but i just keep all my mags and usually they're loaded now the reason i keep them in a pouch like this is because the airline will want to know if you have loaded mags well if you're like me you lie to the airline tsa doesn't care that they're in mags it's the airline that cares so i just lie to the airline and i just go on my day but all my mags sit in here so rifle pistol whatever and i'll put them in there then i also have a good old dark angel med kit but it has a mocha bear medical patch because that's the way they should come yeah carrie i said it and then uh which is great for the range i like having a simple med kit most of the time ranges and hosts have really good med kits which is awesome so i don't have to worry about it too much but it is something i think about then i have my belt right my axl belt which i'll do a full review of this thing at some point um and i did do one on the axl in general the axl belt is pretty freaking awesome so check it out then i have another tool kit right one of my fix it sticks because i like having torque wrenches and stuff like that so very helpful i also keep this a little baggy and i think this is from mdom i can't remember where it's exactly from yeah mdom and it has like my cones little targets it has my my little target sights uh it has my timer in here and stuff like that it's a simple baggie that i could pull out has a handle that i could put some boxes of ammo in there and walk over to the range and have that stuff with me for a teacher this is actually really nice to have like a simple little bag that you can walk down the range with and have by the targets and it's super easy and i i like it so up to you because you're you know you instruct the way you instruct but this is the way i like to do it with like a little bag so i can i don't have to carry a lot of [ __ ] in my hands and like juggle things i can carry in a little baggie so it's my my range purse then i have my holster to my belt i usually keep it on a qls that way i can you know fold things up in here a lot easier and i keep my gun in here because it protects my firearm a little bit and that way i could just toss it in here and it's no big deal um the tsa has i'm sorry the airline has asked about that before and gotten a little upset but i explained to them that this is the hard case and it's in here and there's foam okay so sue me bro um so continued on so that's holster stuff i pro stuff right nice and easy it's just my oakley m frames um with a little big tex outdoors little raggy and i also keep another set of ear pro attached to it um as you can see like i have redundancies in my earpro uh i have forgotten it and that's the worst feeling in the world luckily students usually are pretty freaking awesome and they have extra stuff especially the local guys they'll come with extra parts and all sorts of stuff dudes like i will say that's probably one of the best parts about this industry is that the students are are really prepared or there's mostly students that are prepared and the ones that aren't learned that they need to be more prepared it's it's really awesome but there's only so much i can bring when i go teach so i can't pack this thing down to the brim you know so my eye pro little bit of ear pro raggy for that in this pouch here i i usually put my carry gun and um just just another thing to to kind of show you guys but this is just a blue force gear admin pouch one of their big ones and then i have this little tiny pouch that i forgot uh who makes this mayflower makes it so it was a velocity one but i keep my carry mags and then my my carry gun and its holsters separate and i put these in and i put them in this pouch or these pouches and then i throw this in here now the reason i do that one protect my gun a little bit because it is my carry gun it's the one that i'm going to use on people if necessary or animals but it's something that i'm i'm going to be a little bit more careful with versus my teaching gun so just something to pay attention to i know i put the carry mags into the pouches also that way they don't get confused with my actual teaching mags or the ones i'm going to shoot on the range and because i want them to be obscured from the airline once again so just another way to do it in here i also have a really light armageddon gear rear bag right one of their game changers this one's filled with get light which is their lightest one i i think it's like a i don't know maybe six ounces it's super lightweight i really like this this uh bag and it's really useful to help students zero if they're doing rifle stuff or if they're doing pistol stuff zeroing off of like a barrel or something like that they can they can base their hands on it and and do a really good job at zeroing compared to if they just freehand it or wiggle on the mag so just another benefit i think it's useful i put it in here because it doesn't weigh much and it's worth having for most instructors or if you're a student then i have a little baggie here that has patches for students and stickers for students so nothing fancy this is probably one of the things that's more specific to me as an instructor i have like a pouch in here that i keep all the little goodies that i give out after class and and then lastly i have my riffle right so a 10-5 fits in here perfectly fine straight across a 12.5 is a little tight a 13 you have to take the upper off or cant it to the side like this and then a 16 inch you definitely have to take the upper off so no big deal just if you have to take them off it's it's just that is what it is and then obviously my suppressor for it which i actually keep an oss can inside of a surefire pouch because i'm i'm weird like that so hopefully that makes sense guys but uh this bottom foam thing um i can't remember where it's from i believe there's a tag on it somewhere here it is so it's made by cv so charlie victor papa kilo golf so whatever that company is uh that's just the the tag it's got so that that is what you get from me when it comes to that now if you wanted to put stickers inside of your your box or on your box or something the inside lid is a good spot for them or like i did here is just one of my buddy stickers you just put them on the inside of the the box um that's where i'll put like little cool stickers or whatever like that uh to keep you know or if you're if you're one of those guys that likes to put stickers all over the place that way they don't end up on top but it's up to you guys you know it's it's your box man so hopefully this made sense guys if there's any questions put them below i'm sure there's gonna be a billion i'll try to get to them but um but this is just a general way that i pack my my box and uh and it's nothing fancy it's just literally just john's crazy way of
