Note Taking in the Dark is an important part of taking a class in a low light or no light environment

hey what's up guys so today let's talk

about taking notes in a low light no

light class now i've been asked multiple

times like hey john what's the best way

to take notes when i'm in a night vision

environment or if i'm in a low light

environment you know taking a white

light class or something like this

especially for those of you that are

coming to the night vision summit um in

south carolina this year

in november if you don't know what that

bad boy in the list of classes and uh

and it'll direct you to the green line

tactical uh website that'll give you a

description of what's going on but it's

gonna be fun

either way taking notes in a low-light

environment obviously as human beings we

need some kind of light to let ourselves

see

so

notebook wise i usually use a regular

notebook a right in the rain is usually

better at night time especially outdoors

because of the humidity and how how wet

it gets at a certain point that dew that

is everywhere that condensation that

gets everywhere so you may ruin an

actual notebook with regular paper so a

right in the rain may actually be better

with a pen that can write on those

and that won't be susceptible to um

uh smearing and things like that

so a couple different ways that i

illuminate

my note-taking material so one in a

low-light environment where i'm doing

just white light stuff it doesn't matter

that i just turn on a white light so

sometimes i'll use a tiny little

handheld like so like one of these tiny

little stream lights and occasionally

because they can be i will clip it onto

my hat

that way i have it there and when i

click it on i can go ahead and take my

notes

now

as you can see that's problematic when

somebody calls my name or looks at me or

i'm looking at them and i'm like what's

up bro and

and i'm shining light in their face so

something low lumen is usually helpful

also you don't start destroying

everybody's night adaptiveness

right my favorite way to do it is

usually with a headlamp i've been using

a headlamp for way too long right since

before

or pretty much since i started in the

army i was issued one and i didn't know

what the hell it was for at first and

then somebody i saw dudes with them

around their necks and that's what i

used on every single mission was a head

lamp around my neck and that's what i

used as an administrative light

or taking pictures of sse things like

that like i had to do i usually did them

under white light now in class i'll go

ahead and set up my my headlamp on my

neck right and i may bump the microphone

so deal with it

but i'll set this thing up

about you know around my neck that way

the button is underneath and i can shine

light forward or it sits right down by

where i would be taking notes

so this is very helpful it's a way i do

it but it could be something that you

use for yourself to take notes once

again so that's in a low light

environment where i'm using white lights

in a night vision environment

now in a night vision environment uh

obviously if somebody if everybody's

using their night vision uh you don't

want to just use your

freaking web amount of light and

illuminate the entire place all right

umbrella lighting with it could be

helpful but if the instructor or

somebody is talking and everybody's

under nods um it's kind of annoying to

like start affecting everybody's vision

to an extent now

is it helpful yeah it's helpful to see

but that's not what you guys are trying

to do you guys are trying to learn

something so when it comes to smaller

like hey i just need light for myself

i will go ahead and use one of these

princeton techs all right and they have

the one that has a little arm that you

can move around but they're pretty low

lumen and they can give you enough where

you can look your notebook you could

actually write

now some people depending on what

they're doing right they may not be able

to use those so a headlamp once again

may actually be really useful depending

on how your home is set up but if you're

like me and you don't mind using or

having some kind of admin light on one

side and having an actual light that i

would use for things on the other

um highly recommend it right very very

useful way of doing it and super super

easy but

overall the goal is not to get light

into everybody else's faces and not

illuminating everything in the room with

a super bright light like i'm not going

to take my cloud defensive out and blast

my notebook with it that's that's super

bright i don't need that much light for

that kind of task taking notes so for

that task i will use something small

right and one of the cool parts about

these smaller lights too

is that you could take them

and you could actually clip them on the

notebook

and get illumination down on the

notebook as well sorry i forgot about

that one earlier but that's another way

of doing it as well so you can do a lot

of different things with smaller lights

some of these are rechargeable like this

and that so you don't ever waste any

batteries but you just need to remember

to recharge it every night or every day

before your next night class so hope
